Caravan Cover – What to buy and Why?

why a caravan cover? If you own a touring caravan, you will know that over time the bodywork will begin to fade, you might get a little damage when in storage, bird muck can stain and damage paintwork and the weather can begin to affect the door and window seals.

To prevent this there is a simple solution and that is a caravan cover.

Investing in a caravan cover will elongate the life of your caravan and ensure it’s in tip-top condition for when you need it. this makes it a very wise investment.

If your caravan didn’t come with a cover or you’re not prepared to pay the high amounts of money they wanted for a custom cover then you’re in luck as there are aftermarket versions available.

What to look out for when purchasing a caravan cover

Look for water and UV resistance. this will prevent paintwork and bodywork fading and prolong the life of the cover itself.

Breathable caravan covers are also a must. Having a breathable membrane will help prevent mildew that could build up beneath the cover.
Some caravan covers are vented. Much like the breathable membrane, this prevents the build-up of mold and mildew

Look for caravan covers that include hitch covers as this adds even more protection and prevents the hitch from becoming stiff and seized up.

Measure your caravan to ensure the cover will fit. Look for elasticated caravan covers as these will fit snuggly around most caravans within their size tolerance.

I found a number of caravan covers available on Amazon. they each have their own merits but the below example was my favorite as it met all my criteria and is very good value for money.

this Caravan cover comes in two sizes. 12-14ft and 23-25ft. these sizes will cover most caravan variations. the smaller size being for most 2 berth touring caravans and the larger being for 3 birth upwards. Amazon is great for these sorts of deals, as if you get it wrong and order the wrong size, they will allow you to return the item without question. If this option is not of interest to you then I would still recommend taking a look on Amazon. mainly due to, as I described earlier you will have no issues with returning the cover if you somehow order the wrong size or are unhappy with the product.
