The Lake District Holiday Highlights and Tips

The lakes

The most famous of the lakes is Lake Windermere a beautiful lake that has plenty of places to eat and relax whilst watching the boats sail by. But there are plenty more available.

Lake Windermere offers a tranquil place to relax and socialize. Artists are forever inspired by the natural beauty and variation of the scenery. A a protected park there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy. There’s also great places to eat and relax surrounding the lake offering traditional and modern foods created with the high quality local produce.

Ullswater

Ullswater is the lake Districts second largest lake. It’s a beautiful lake with contrasting scenery of rolling hills and steep cliffed mountains. Ullaswater is a hiker paradise you can explore the lakes surrounding mountains and hills or you can choose to take on the nearby challenging mount Helvellin and its rugged razor edge cliffs.

Ullswater steam boat rides

Ullswater steamers have been an ever present on the lake for 150 years. The Steamers transport the public to and from the most commonly used trails surround the lake. Tours are also available for the general public who want to spend a little longer on the boat.

Highlight 2

Hiking routes

The Lake District is world renowned for its great hiking routes. There’s plenty to choose from to keep you occupied foe even the longest of holiday breaks. Renowned amongst hiker is the Great Langdale. The iconic langdale pikes which consists of a ribbon of weaving hills. The most experienced hikers may choose to take on the challenging Crinkle Crags.

Traditional Pubs and Inns

The Drunken Duck Inn is located between Ambleside and Hawkshead. It offers a really great mx between the old and new. Adventure activities

The Lake Districts rugged landscape make it ideal for a wide range of adventure activities. A number of a clubs exist that offer adventure experiences and lessons.

The outdoor pursuits center at Windermere is one of many clubs that offer adventure and activities for all the family. They offer Canoeing, Kayaking, wind surfing and sailing. Introductory lessons are available to groups as well as full day adventures
