Cheap internet for static caravan without a phone line

So you own a static caravan and want cheap internet. Maybe you want to browse the web on your tablet or watch a little Netflix on your tv or even stream some music on your Amazon Alexa. if you’re all of the above then don’t worry we’ve also got you covered. the reason it matters what you want to do is quite simply due to the amount of data you will consume as a result. the more data you consume on average, the more expensive your internet will be.

The easiest and cheapest way to receive internet in a static caravan is via the 4G network. 4G is what your Smartphone uses to search the web. Combined with the right hardware its more than capable of providing you with all the speed and data you will need to receive a good quality internet connection in your static caravan.

What hardware do you need for cheap internet in your caravan?

You will need what’s called a 4G Wifi router. there are plenty of models available at varying price ranges. Expect to pay in the region of £80 and £300 for your router. We would recommend a router that is at least Cat4 as this will offer you 150mbps. this is more than capable of streaming tv, web cam chats, streaming music and general web browsing.

One of our favourite routers is the TP-LINK MR600. You can find this on the likes of amazon for around £130. it is a low to mid range router in terms of cost, but offers a lot of bang for the buck.

4G routers are pretty much the same as the routers you find at home and will behave identically when connecting devices to them.  the main difference being that instead of attaching a phone line, you insert the sim card provided by your service provider.

Ok so hopefully by now you’ve either purchased or are well on the way to purchasing the 4G router. that’s the hardware part sorted.

Now you need to decide upon a package from a network provider.

the question is how much data will you consume a month? the average consumer will use in the region of 10 gigabytes of data. If you’re streaming a lot of Netflix or other tv you’re going to need to double that at around 30 Gigabytes or even unlimited data.

You have two options available to you. Just like a mobile phone, you can choose between pay as you go or monthly contract. The monthly contract will tend to give you more data for your money.

Or you could go down the  pay as you go route.

if you are similar to our other readers you may not spend all year at your caravan. If this is the case then you wont want to be struck to monthly contract as you will have to pay even if you’re not using it.

We have found a PAY AS YOU GO solution to this that provides Contract levels of data but on a pay as you go basis. The solution is GiffGaff and utilizing what they call “Goody Bags”. You purchase their Goody Bags on a pay as you go basis. you get a set amount of data that will last a month. once the month is up or you consume the data you can choose to buy more but there is no obligation to as it isn’t a contract.

You can order a GiffGaff sim card for free by clicking here or the below link

when you receive both your router and sim card, the rest is simple. Simply plug the router into a mains socket, Insert the Sim card into the back of the router, leave it a few minutes. then lookup/search the internet as you would on your home router on the device you are using. enter the password located on the bottom or back of the router and your good to go. You now have cheap internet for your static caravan.
