If you would like more information on how to get broadband internet for your caravan then have a read of a blog I previously posted by clicking here.

Here’s a quick summary of everything you will need to get broadband internet or WIFI in your caravan.

Step 1: WiFi for static caravans, internet provider

With this, you have two options, either you have a phone line or you don’t. If you do then you will contact one of the major suppliers, just like at home; the big players are BT, Sky, etc…

If you don’t have a phone line the simplest way to get broadband internet or WIFI in your caravan is by using the 4G (or new 5G) network. This is the same network your smartphone relies on to surf the internet (click here for more information). You pay for this the same way as you would a contract for your mobile phone, the only difference is, instead of a phone line, you simply insert the sim card you receive from the supplier into the router. This brings me nicely onto the next step.

If like us you don’t stay at your caravans all year round then paying for internet whilst you are not there is just a waste of money.

The problem is Contracts usually offer more data for your money than pay as you go sims.

Here at Simply caravan we haver found a solution to this. GiffGaff offers the same level of data as Contracts for your money but on a pay as you go basis. They do this with what they call “Goody Bags” you purchase these Goody Bags on a pay as you go basis. They give you a set amount of data that will last a month. Unlimited data will cost just £35 a month the same as all the major Contract service providers. The big difference with GIFFGAFF is that you will not have to purchase again the next month if you don’t want to. This will save you hundreds of pounds over a year. The sims cards are free to order and come with £5 free credit if you use the link below

Step 2: Buy a WiFi Router for your caravan

At this point, I’m going to assume you haven’t got a phone line and have had to go with the 4G network option. This is a great option to receive WiFi for static caravans – you get a very fast connection speed and it works even in rural or ‘off-grid’ locations, as long as there’s a mobile signal.

The ‘router’ is the box you normally have sitting at home plugged into your phone line that broadcasts a WiFi signal to your phone, tablets and other devices. The difference with a 4G router is that instead of plugging it into a phone line, you plug a sim card into the back of it. Other than that it works exactly the same as your home router, again for more information click here.

When it comes to selecting a router for your caravan there are many options to choose from. Below are some of our favourites:

1. Budget

Huawei E5573Cs-322

This is a great option if you’re looking for a lot of bang for your buck. You can connect up to 10 devices and it has a battery too, so you can use it outside or even take it down to the beach with you!

2. Mid-range

TP-Link Archer MR200 AC750

This is a very reliable model from one of the most trusted suppliers in the UK. It comes with dual-band which means it has a strong signal and offers speeds of up to 433 Mbps. 3. High-end

3. High-End

TP-LINK Archer MR600 AC1200

This is another fantastic model from TP-Link. For the extra money you get cutting edge technology including dual band speeds of up to 867 Mbps, wired connections for bandwidth hungry devices like games consoles, and plug & play connection of up to 64 devices – enough to keep any teenager happy!

Step 3: Set up your caravan WiFi router

To set up the router, unbox it, plug it in and ensure you place the router in a central location. WiFi in static caravans should normally be reliable, as the walls are pretty thin so don’t do much to stop the signal wherever you place it, but this is considered best practice.

Take the sim card you should now have received from your chosen 4G network supplier and insert it into the back of the router.

If it has one, press the power button

Give the router a few minutes to kick in and load up, it will display steady green or blue lights once ready.

Now underneath the router will be a label with a name and password.

When adding the connection to your laptop, tv, tablet, etc… select this network and enter the password provided. Also, bare in mind that you need to ensure you keep the password safe; WiFi in static caravans can spread quite far due to the thin walls. If someone obtains your password they could simply park 10 yards away from your caravan and use your internet connection.
